If you are a soon to be work at home mom, "WAHM", you have undoubtedly ran into the problem of, what can I do? That's the wrong question to ask, the correct question to ask yourself is, what can I not do? The fact is there are countless opportunities for a mom to work at home. Some mom's who are desperate to work from home jump on the first opportunity they see, spend lots of money to get off the ground and then two months later, with no success realize they should never have joined up with the company they chose because it's simply not right for them.

Deciphering what you will do and what you will not do is quite simple really. If you don't already have a business plan and you're searching for opportunities to enable you to become a full-time work at home mom, consider what you want to do. A long time ago, when my dreams of becoming a work at home first emerged I signed on with a well -known cosmetic company. I hated it! I invested a lot of money for a business kit and I should've prepared my own list of what I would and wouldn't do. Here's some of what I ended up doing that I didn't want to do.

My short-lived duties included:

• Propositioning friends and family
• Traveling
• Knocking on doors
• Doing in home parties
• Chasing down customers for product delivery

I hated the fact that I had to sell a product that I wasn't given a lot of information about, there was no support team and the worst thing about it was, if a customer didn't pay for an order.I was personally responsible for the money due. As the years went by, I saw many women transitioning into the work at home mom lifestyle and they were broke because compensation was worse than poor!

• Web site designers
• Freelance writers
• Copyrighters
• Publishers
• Ad executives
• Marketing consultants
• Medical transcriptionists
• Proof readers
• Billing clerks
• Career professionals
• Jewelry designers
• Gift basket makers

There are too many to list! From designing unique gifts to providing much needed business services, a lot of work at home moms have taken the skills that corporate America has taught them and put them to work in the home office. It's amazing to truly see what a work at home mom is capable of now.

If you're considering becoming a work at home mom, set your goals, are there any qualities that set you a part from the rest, are there things you refuse to do, are there specific things you want to do? It's not hard finding your niche, when you find it, run with it and don't look back. If you're serious about succeeding, you will not fail. If you have an idea but you still have cold feet, then try a traditional business just to get a feel of what you may be up against. Some of the more traditional work at home mom businesses are moms who go into business as independent representatives for companies with large product bases like the cosmetic company I worked with and:

• Direct sales companies that sell health and wellness products, child educational materials, home décor, food, candy, beauty aids and etc.,,,
• Multi-level marketing companies
• Network marketing companies
• Auction moms have really invaded the Internet selling home made crafts, hand me down items, services and products from drop shippers.

Anytime you consider signing with a company like these, get all the information possible and research them completely. Ask questions, if you don't then you wont get good information and if you ask but don't get answers, beware. Most any company will ask for an up front investment, if they want your money before they've given you any information about the business don't do it! Read all the of the policies, find out exactly what your duties will be, exactly what you are responsible for and if you will have any help getting started. The point is research potential businesses to make sure they are worthy companies and not fly by night operations that will take your money, never to be seen or heard from again.

Scams are lurking around every corner waiting to take hard earned money from the families of want-to-be work at home moms too. One of the oldest one's that has claimed more victims than a California mudslide is stuffing envelopes. I fell for it at the age of nineteen and I was so disappointed. Don't let your dreams go of wanting to be a work at home mom, there is something for you; you just have to find your niche. Don't do anything you don't want to do, it is possible to be a work at home mom with dignity these days.
